Canadian author Alice Munro has been awarded a Nobel Prize for Literature, being called “a master of the contemporary short story” by the committee. She is the first Canadian-based author to secure the honour, and is only the 13th woman to receive the award.
Munro was born and raised in Wingham, which is outside of Toronto, and now lives in British Columbia. Munro has previously been awarded the 2009 Man Booker Prize, and is a three-time winner of the Governor General’s Award for Fiction.
